Welcome to the Caritas Nepal website!
Caritas
Nepal is a development/relief organization operating in Nepal since
1990 and is registered as an NGO (Non-Governmental
Organization). It operates under the auspices of the Roman
Catholic Church in Nepal as its social arm and is a member of Caritas
Internationalis, the worldwide federation of Caritas agencies. Caritas
is a Latin word which means “unlimited love and kindness towards all”
and Caritas Nepal tries to spread this Love by working in solidarity
with the poor, downtrodden and marginalized people of Nepal with a
mission to empower them to overcome poverty and realize basic human
rights and social justice, and to provide relief to those suffering
from disasters and conflict. From its modest beginnings 20 years
ago, Caritas Nepal has, with the support and encouragement of its
partner and donor organizations, over the years established itself as a
reputed player in the NGO sector reaching out to the underprivileged
all over the country with wide-ranging programmes, projects and
activities that aim to provide maximum benefit to the intended target
groups. ... read more |

As
those of you who have visited us recently are aware, we have moved into
our smart new purpose-built office building (image - above left). The
ground floor houses the reception, a chapel, a kitchen, a waiting room,
and a seminar/meeting hall. The first floor is made up of three blocks
containing all the staff workstations. The second floor houses the
store room, a library, and space for more staff workstations. |
| Although
many of us have warm and fond memories of the old office building
(image - above right), this change has been a huge improvement over the
old office building, which was far too small, rather poorly built, and
not conducive to the modern, efficient system of working. In fact, we
were lucky that a strong earthquake has not hit the valley for several
decades, as the building would probably have collapsed if a strong one
had struck; when the old building was demolished we discovered just how
unsafe it had been, having been built with below standard materials. We
are truly blessed that we have such close and generous friends as
partners as without their combined support we would probably still be
working in the cramped, old, and unsafe, building. |
