24 participants from local government, cooperatives, social volunteers, and community partners reviewed the activities conducted over the past 6 months under NLRP.
The Namuna and Hariyali Gharbagaicha Farmer Group in Devchuli-1 Keurani successfully completed Mushroom Cultivation Training. In addition, vegetable nursery has been established in different locations of NLRP-II, including Banke, Nawalpur, Kaski, lalitpur,Kanchpur and Damak. Seeds like cucumber, pumpkin, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, and sponge gourd have been planted. Also, fruit seeding such as pears, peach and walnut were distributed in Manegaun homested group in Manegaun, Lalitpur.
The Talbesi and Thulibesi Kitchen Garden Vegetable Nursery Farmer Group in Rupa-7, Kaski, the Manegaun Homestead Group in Ghusel, Lalitpur, Siddhanath Ghar Bagaincha Samuha in Laljhadi, Ga.Pa. 2, Kanj Kanchanpur, and the Panchakanya Homestead Group in Jhapa have prepared Bokashi manure. These initiatives demonstrate a collective effort to promote eco-friendly solutions and enhance sustainable agricultural practices in their respective districts.
Under the guidance of Kaski CN staff, the Student Farmer Field School (SFFS) at Ramkot Model Secondary School is implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to empower the next generation of farmers. The Kriyashil Student Farmer Field School, containing 15 girls and 11 boys are actively engaged in practical learning, developing essential agricultural skills. This initiative helps cultivate a new generation of environmentally friendly and skilled individuals in agriculture, shaping a sustainable and knowledgeable farming community for the future.
The Caritas Nepal Field Offices distributed 1422 chicks to 105 homestead farmers in Bardia. In Surkhet, 900 six-week-old chicks were distributed among 75 homestead farmers. In Banke and Nawlaparasi, 972 and 880 chicks were distributed to 75 and 108 homestead group farmers, respectively. Additionally, chicken feed and fodder were distributed alongside the chicks. Meanwhile, 900 chicks will be distributed in Lalitpur, and in Kaski, 1650 chicks will be distributed within the first week of February.
An animal health camp was recently concluded, benefiting 105 farmers from three homestead groups and one enterprise group in Surkhet. The initiative was conducted in coordination with Panchapuri municipality aimed at ensuring the well-being of poultry and goats within local communities.
Additionally, a one-day Plant Health Camp was organized in Kankai Municipality, Ward 2, Jhapa. The camp provided essential support to homestead and enterprise beneficiaries, allowing them to diagnose and address plant-related issues with the assistance of a Plant Doctor. 29 farmers actively participated, presenting their plants and saplings for examination and guidance.
These health camps reflect a dedicated effort to enhance the overall health and productivity of both animals and plants within the community.
From January 9th to 11th, we hosted a dynamic 3-day Technical Skill Development Training for goat-rearing farmers in Devchuli Municipality-1. The training covered essential skills, including making mineral blocks and feeds for goats, along with insights on shed management, fodder practices, and disease recognition and treatment—a holistic approach to effective goat farming. 25 enthusiastic participants engaged in educational sessions, enhancing their goat-rearing expertise. From January 5th to 7th, 2024, three-day professional coffee farming training was conducted in Rong Illam where 34 (7 female) farmers participated. The training was facilitated by Indra Prasad Adhikari, Regional Director of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board in Jhapa, along with expertise of Agriculture Technician, Nabin Koirala. The training explored various features of coffee farming, providing invaluable insights and practical knowledge essential for successful cultivation practices.
On January 7, 2024, the 13th Annual General Assembly (AGM) of Aguwa Agriculture was held at the cooperative premises in Rajapur-6, Bardiya. A heartfelt gesture marked the occasion as warm clothes were provided to Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and individuals affected by gender violence, showcasing Aguwa Agri Cooperative’s commitment to community welfare.
Similarly, during the AGM of Sisautar Women Saving and Credit Cooperative in Ghusel, Lalitpur, warm clothes were also distributed to Persons with Disabilities (PWD).
A Cooperative Management Training session was conducted in two locations, benefiting the Juneli Women Agriculture Cooperative in Laljhadi, Kanchapur, and the Sihahutar Women Saving and Credit Cooperative in Ghusel, Laltipur. The training sessions, held on January 20th and 22nd respectively, represented 28 and 17 individuals. Participants included board members, AC committee members, staff, and share members from both cooperatives. This initiative give emphasis to empower women in these cooperatives, equipping them with the knowledge and skills essential for effective participation and leadership roles.
Aguwa Agriculture Cooperative Ltd. in Rajapur held a legal aid orientation on Gender-Based Violence and referral processes on January 11, 2024. The training session was facilitated by the DSP and a team from the area police office in Rajapur. In total 45 participants, including the ward women leader, were trained. Likewise, in Nawalpur, Deputy Mayor Parbati Tiwari emphasized legal rights awareness and collective efforts in combating Gender-Based Violence during the event. Help desk have been established in cooperative in Bardia, Kaski and Nawalpur aiming to serve as accessible center for community members to get information and support to address various needs.
In a proactive effort to address local social issues, a Social Protection Situation Assessment Workshop was conducted at the ward level on January 12 and 25, 2024 in Ghusel, Lalitpur and Surkhet respectively. Altogether 52 people participated, including community members and CN staff, aimed at identifying and understanding prevailing social problems. This initiative reflects a commitment to understand the community’s needs, with the goal of developing targeted solutions to enhance social protection at the grassroots level. Nine other districts are also doing this assessment.
In an initiative to build leadership skills and develop child club management strategies, a two-day training took place at New Heritage Cottage in Rajapur, Bardiya, from January 5th to 6th, 2024. 25 children of the Manpur Ma.Vi child club participated. The training included engaging workshops, strategic gaming sessions, and an orientation on child rights. This approach aimed to empower participants with essential skills for effective child club management. The incorporation of strategic gaming not only made the learning experience enjoyable but also provided valuable insights into teamwork and decision-making., The Child Club also published a school-level wall magazine, showcasing their leadership and management capabilities practiced during the training.
Saraswati Secondary School in Jhapa is promoting cleanliness among students up to grade 5. Through practical lessons and fun activities, the students learned about the importance of tidiness and staying healthy. The school also organized lively volleyball and running competitions to highlight the value of teamwork and staying active.
Shree Rara Basic School organized an extra-curricular activity to promote healthy competition and holistic development among our talented youngsters. 13 boys and 11 girls enthusiastically participated.
In Rajapur-6, Bardiya, a one-day orientation session on safeguarding and complaint handling at the school level was conducted on January 12, 2024. The training was attended by 29 participants, including child club members, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) members, and members of the School Management Committee. The session aimed to prepare participants with essential skills for effective complaint resolution and implementing safeguarding mechanisms within schools.
