World Environment Day Celebration

World Environment Day 2024 was celebrated with great enthusiasm by Caritas Nepal. The event organized by Caritas Nepal in collaboration with the Nepal Livelihood Resilience Program (NLRP) team, featured a series of activities promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The executive director of Caritas Nepal Sr. Cecilia Durga Shrestha alongside the team spearheaded a tree plantation drive, planting diverse species to enhance the region’s green cover.

The NLRP team organized an informative presentation and a program highlighting the importance of environmental conservation. This initiative was part of a broader campaign, underscoring the organization’s commitment to sustainability. A painting competition centered on the World Environment Day theme engaged team, encouraging them to express their visions of a greener future. Fun games and activities added a festive atmosphere, making the event enjoyable for participants of all ages.

Across Nepal, Caritas Nepal’s provincial offices conducted similar environment programs marking a significant step towards nationwide environmental conservation. In Jhapa Rural Municipality, a collaborative effort with the Education Section, Health Section, and local security agencies resulted in a successful tree plantation event under the school-based disaster risk reduction program. The community’s active participation highlighted a collective commitment to protecting natural resources.

In Kankai Municipality, Caritas Nepal distributed 500 fruit saplings, including mango, guava, and litchi through the Nepal Livelihood Resilience Program. This initiative not only aimed to enhance green cover but also provided sustainable livelihood opportunities to local farmers. Additionally, in coordination with the Division Forest Office and Kawasoti Ward No. 12 Office, 140 saplings were planted with the participation of 107 community members, further emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship. These combined efforts reflect a nationwide dedication to fostering a greener, more resilient future for Nepal.
