In the heart of Harnamadi village nestled a woman whose resilience and determination transformed not just her own life, but the landscape of her community. Meet Ms. Kopila Sapkota, a beacon of hope and empowerment for rural women, whose journey epitomizes the transformative power of sustainable agriculture.
Born into the tranquil rhythms of rural life, Kopila found herself tethered to the responsibilities of homemaking and subsistence farming alongside her husband.
Their existence was a delicate balance, sustained by the toil of their hands and the uncertainties of nature. Like many in her community, they relied heavily on chemical inputs to boost their agricultural yield, and their income was supplemented by laborious work in the fields of others.

However, the winds of change began to blow five years ago, carrying with them the promise of empowerment and opportunity. It was then that Kopila became intertwined with the fabric of a socio-economic empowerment project tailored for marginalized women, a beacon of hope in partnership with Caritas Nepal and Sirjanshil Nepal.
With unwavering determination, Kopila embraced the chance to rewrite her story and joined the Nawadurga Aayaarjan Krishak Mahila Samuha, a women’s group born from the project’s vision.
Guided by the light of knowledge and community support, Kopila embarked on a journey of discovery, shedding the shackles of conventional farming in favor of sustainable practices. Despite the initial challenges that accompanied this transition, she embraced the ethos of agro-ecological farming with zeal.
Armed with compost manure, botanical pesticides, and a bounty of indigenous wisdom, Kopila transformed her humble plot of land into a vibrant oasis of biodiversity.
Today, Kopila’s farm stands as a testament to her dedication and ingenuity. With eight varieties of fruits, lush fodder grass, and a menagerie of livestock, her land teems with life and abundance.

She has mastered the art of harnessing nature’s gifts, utilizing livestock waste to nourish her soil and crafting ingenious solutions to tackle irrigation challenges.
But perhaps Kopila’s greatest harvest lies not in the fruits of her labor, but in the bonds she has forged within her community. Through her tireless efforts, she has become a beacon of knowledge and inspiration, empowering her fellow villagers to embrace sustainable farming practices and reclaim their agency in the face of adversity.Reflecting on her journey, Kopila’s eyes twinkle with pride and gratitude.
“Through this project, I have not only secured a better future for my family but have also found purpose in uplifting my community,” she says with a smile. “Together, we are sowing the seeds of change, one harvest at a time.”
As the sun sets over the horizon, casting a golden glow upon Kopila’s verdant fields, her story stands as a testament to the transformative power of empowerment and the enduring resilience of the human spirit. In her hands, the future of rural women shines bright with promise, guided by the gentle rhythms of sustainable agriculture and the unyielding strength of community solidarity.
